Belated Introduction

From: June McAllister (nfmoon@yahoo.com) | Date: 2004-08-21 19:15:10 UTC-07:00

Hello all,

I am very new and have been lurking off and on, mostly off for a while now. I live in NYC and don't have a car, so the fact that this is primarily a rural hobby has made it a little hard for me to get into to it, or easy to not try a little harder. I'm sorry if I offended anyone by not introducing myself. I didn't mean to not do it. I just lurked a few times and then posted.

Sorry about the mini ruckus???.... I caused about the virus post on that other site. I was only going by what Earthlink sent me. Since the "virus" was supposed to have been intercepted, I doubt if it would make any difference if I know what a virus is or not, which I do.

I am sending my first carved stamps and box off to the Monster Mash on Monday.....last minute of course and had a great time. I have placed a couple in my home state of Texas while on a trip back home. I want to place some here in the city but it is just so hard to come up with safe places. Or at least it seems that way to me. Central Park seems so obvious, you know? But I need to get off my rear and get on the letterboxing ball.

It also seems like such a family oriented thing. Kids, camping, ticks, Can I single, divorced, middle-aged woman find happiness in letterboxing she wonders?

Soooooooooo...anyhoo............hello.....officially....so there
June
(MissMoon) ....not clueless......

welcome to the obsession. yes a single, divorced, middle-aged woman can
find happiness in letterboxing. even tho i have a family, and we do box
together, i often go alone. just be careful where you are going. you could
also see if there is any letterboxers in the new york city area that would
love to have company. must be one or two out there somewhere as i have
noticed there is plantings in manhattan, the bronx, and new york city. good
luck. and if you ever get to new hampshire you can look me up.........

I'm single and tend to go alone or with my nieces and nephews,
hiking/biking buddies, etc. My work is almost entirely in front of
or on the phone with people and my involvement in theater & church
kinda piles that face time on even more so I found I was often taking
hikes intentionally to be alone. When I heard about letterboxing from
an NPR piece, I slowly added letterboxing to my hikes.

I guess I never officially introduced myself either... so if we
offend we do so unintentionally.

Welcome!

Renfield

Ah thanks...that's really sweet of you. I *have* been encouraged by
seeing a tiny tricking of urban boxes starting to appear. And in one
that I found, I saw stamps from people from out of state that had
come to visit and went hunting. So that makes me feel like there is
hope for those of us trapped in the city. I'll be "retiring" (hate
that word) in a couple of years and moving out west. I'm looking
forward to being able to really jump into deeper rural letterboxing
waters.

It's a great way to get out in the woods and be alone, that's for
sure. Thanks for the welcome.

Yup, that would be me. If you're a Texan, neither one of them are a
huge mystery , but it's a start. If you get a chance to go,
please be honest and let me know if you think the clues are ok. They
were my first (and only...so far--lol) and if the clues need to be
better, I want to know. I *may* get out there again next month. If I
do, I'll a few more and check on those two.
